Dentistry applications are generally applied under local anesthesia, that is to say, while patient is conscious, through only numbing the area of operation. General anesthesia is provided in surgery room conditions and by anesthetist of the contracted hospitals. Patient lies unconsciously during treatment and does not feel anything concerning the treatment. General anesthesia is preferred for people who are allergic to all local anesthetic substances, who have so many processes to complete and require them at a single séance, who want to get rid of all these without feeling anything, who cannot endure any process and for children who do not let any conscious process.
It is a conscious deep sleep condition caused by certain medications which are applied by anesthetics.
It differs from general anesthesia and can be applied in hospital or in dental clinics. Patient can carry out instructions commanded by doctor. When dentist asks patient to open his or her mouth, patient opens without any effort. Anesthetist monitors patient’s pulse and blood pressure during the process. In this method which is defined as a condition in which patient aspirates easily, can give suitable responds for physical stimuluses and verbal commands, children do not even remember whether they had been to dentist. In some cases, sedation deepness can be increased parallel to the increase in the level of fear.
Thanks to the effects of medications, patient is not exposed to posttreatment psychological trauma since he/she will not remember the treatment process, pain, unpleasant voices etc. This case will make easier for patient to come to dental treatment in following séances.
